Military Insect Spy Robots - Are They the Future of Warfare?

Robotics are on fire this decade, with more and more jaw-dropping breakthroughs, leaving us wondering, to what degree can this technology grow.

The latest thing that caught my eye, is the developement of multi-purpose, functioning, mobile insect spy drones.

Could the future of these miniaturized war machines be darker than we dare think?

In 2007, some protesters in the US have reported sightings of tiny, hovering insects above their head. They started accusing goverment, yet the government denied any accusations.

In 2012, United States have begun to pour extraordinate sums of money in minitaturizing of robotics, particularly to develop flying fly-like survelliance drones, which could be released in swarms and infiltrate dense or heavily guarded areas. They are calling it the MAV, micro aerial vehicle.

These mini-robots would have myriad of abilities, including the capability to land precisely on human bodies and take DNA samples, while the victim would only feel the bite of a mosquito. They would also be equipped with high resolution miniaturized cameras and microphone. Furthermore, they could inject miniaturized tracking devices under the skins of victims, or inject them with lethal toxins during wars.

You all probably see how this could be easily used to evil things. I am not one of these conspirators, that are claiming the US to be a nationalistic government, that is ruining people's lives, but in the hands of terrorrists or very wealthy individuals, this could be extremely dangerous.

Their Future

Their future could be even more sinister. With today's technological progresses, how far can a man go? In the far future, there could be insects that precisely mimic the looks and behavior of real insects, making them able to infiltrate any known structure or gathering without getting too much attention.

And there could be even crazier developements. Today's focus on miniaturization of robotics could even make nanometre-scale flying robots invisible to human eye. These could fly in swarms of thousands, resembling just smoke and their quests and tasks could be controlled by AI, individual to each insect. These could be anywhere, any time, they could kill dozens of people in mere seconds, they could survey the whole world, virtually undetectable. They would be then classified as weapons of mass destruction, giving them the same status as nuclear weaponry.
Well, to summarize, whatever these mini-robots grow up to be, they could be extremely dangerous, but they could have infinity of uses.
