Will We Stop and Revert Aging in the Future?

Being forever young, never having to die of advanced age. Does that sound extremely sci-fi to you? To me it did too at first, but after looking up some information about it, I now see, that it could be soon a major part of our lives. Imagine it - we always had sci-fi and fantasy literature, where there were races, that would live indefinetely, or at least a few hundred years.

Imagine that WE could be like elves, immortal race, never fading in their youth.

New breakthroughs in genome sequencing and stem cells therapy, like reversing aging in some parts of a mouse, tell us that in a few decades, maybe a century, scientists will figure out, how to cheat death.

I personally quite like this idea. It would pose a lot of problems, however; mainly overpopulation of Earth, which is a huge issue in some countries already, resistance from all sorts of obsolete religious groups, and mainly, it would cause huge shift in modern society and human thinking. If people were ageless - why to hurry? Why try to acheive something in life quickly when you have so much time? It would literally change humanity.

I have recently found an extremely interesting website named Future Timeline, and I spent hours and hours reading about its forecasts of the future. It is based on current technological trends, speed of human invention, political situations, etc., and I don't know, but as a kind of futuristic person, extremely fascinated by sci-fi and technology, I love these semi-prophecies.

The site says, that by 2020, the subject of halting aging will begin to be discussed by the larger public, and by 2065, we should reach the ultimate aging therapy - halting aging by twelve months a year. In fact, today's aging therapies can delay your death approximately two moths per year - so for an average person, you will be cca. 10 years older. Unfortunately, these are quite expensive even for more financially secure people.

So, what do you think? Leave a comment and tell me about your opinion on aging, I'll be eager to
read them.
